Since we opened our Instagram account last October, we had neglected our blog.  It would be a pity to abandon this blog entirely, so here we are back again with some photos highlighting the latest news at Atelier Nadaï!  We resume with a few more photos taken during our Decorative Painter's Foundation Course, Module I: The Art of graining and faux marble.

From Finland with love! / Souvenirs de Finlande!

Avec la Finlande, c'est une histoire d'amour qui dure depuis plusieurs années.  

C'est toujours un réel bonheur d'y retourner et revoir les vieux amis et rencontrer des nouveaux.  Voici quelques clichés prisent lors du dernier stage d'imitations des bois et des marbres dans l'atelier de Teppo à Porvoo.

With Finland, it's a 'love story' that started several years ago.  It's always a great pleasure to return to this beautiful land and beautiful people, to meet old friends and make new ones.  Here are some photos taken at Teppo's atelier in Porvoo during a graining and marbling workshop.

Voici quelques clichés prisent pendant notre formation Enseignement Technique du Métier de Peintre en Décors, Module I - Imitations des bois et des marbres.  Grande nouveauté cette année, l'arrivée de notre mascotte, notre petit Shih Tzu nommé Lumi.  Il insiste d'être dans la salle, surtout pendant les démos...

L'année 2014 a certainement été l'année du faux bois et faux marbres, avec divers chantiers et demande de formation en France et à l'étranger. Nous sommes très contents de voir un regain d'intérêt pour ce métier et le désir des gens d'apprendre les techniques de manière approfondie.

The year 2014 has definitely been the year of graining and marbling, with various opportunities of commissions and teaching in France and abroad.  We're very grateful to see this rising interest in this craft and people's desire to learn the techniques in an in-depth manner.

From Turku with Love 2

Début juin nous avons eu le bonheur de revenir à Turku pour notre rendez-vous annuel avec la Finlande.  Comme chaque année nos hôtes, très attentionnés, voulaient nous faire découvrir un endroit spécial dans leur pays, et cette fois-ci ils ont choisi la ville côtière de Naantali, environ une demi-heure en voiture de Turku.  

Avec ses maisons en bois multicolores et son petit port de plaisance, Naantali est un enchantement pour le regard. Tandis que l'archipel propose un cadre apaisant et pittoresque pour se détendre, son célèbre parc à thème Moomin World reçoit des visiteurs du monde entiers...  

Un grand merci à nos hôtes Leena, Marja et Hermann et aux stagiaires avec qui nous avons partagé cette magnifique semaine!

This year we were very grateful to have the opportunity to travel to Finland for our annual rendez-vous during which Michel taught a 5-day intensive graining/marbling and trompe-l'oeil class.  It was a joy to return to Turku to find our hosts Leena, Marja and Hermann, to meet familiar faces of returning students as well as new faces of those attending for the first time.  

Our hosts were very gracious and generous and they went beyond their call of duty by taking care of us on the weekend of our arrival.  This year they wanted to show us a place we haven't seen yet, and they picked the lovely town of Naantali in southwestern Finland, about a 30-minute drive from Turku.  

Naantali was founded around the medieval Brigittine convent Vallis gratiae, the church of which still dominates its skyline.  One of the oldest towns in Finland, Naantali is also a top holiday destination with its numerous galleries, museums, old churches and its world wide famous theme park for children - Moominworld.  The Finnish Presiden'ts summer residence is also located there.  Kiitos to our dear friends and students in Finland for this lovely week!

Dublin, city of words and culture! Dublin, la ville des 'mots' et de la culture!

À Dublin, on ne dit pas "salut", mais plutôt "c'est quoi l'histoire?"... et ça c'est parce que la littérature est ancrée dans les gènes des Dublinois... quelques-uns des meilleurs écrivains au monde sont originaires de Dublin - James Joyce, Bram Stoker (oui, le père de Dracula), Oscar Wilde, Edna O'brien, Roddy Doyle et George Bernard Shaw... nous avons eu le plaisir de visiter cette belle ville où Michel a effectué diverses démonstration de faux bois et faux marbre dans le studio de notre ami Shane Ralph. Un grand merci à Shane et sa compagne Aoife pour leur accueil très chaleureux.

They don't say hello in Dublin, they say 'what's the story'... and that's because Dubliners has literary blood running through their veins.  They can boast of an immense literary heritage with some of the world's finest authors including James Joyce, Bram Stocker (yes, the Dracula guy), Oscar Wilde, Edna O'Brien, Roddy Doyle, George Bernard Shaw to name a few...  we were delighted to visit this beautiful city, to promote French decorative painting techniques.  A big thanks to our friends Shane Ralph and his partner Aoife, who welcomed us at their home and organized this weekend graining and marbling demo in Shane's studio.

Notre rendez-vous annuel en Finlande.  Cette fois, nous avons eu le grand bonheur de découvrir une nouvelle ville - Turku, l'ancienne capitale de la Finlande.  C'est surtout la gentillesse des gens, leurs générosités, et bien sure les magnifiques paysages qui nous ont marqués.  

Our annual rendez-vous in Finland.  This time we were delighted to discover a new destination - Turku, the old capital of Finland.  Here are some photos from our annual rendez-vous in Finland.  This year we were delighted to discover a new place - Turku, the oldest city and the capital of the Grand Duchy of Finland until 1812.  Every year we return with wonderful souvenirs of the time spent in this beautiful land, and are always so grateful of the Finnish people's kindness and generosity.  It touches us deeply and we feel privileged to have such opportunity.  Kiitos to our dear friends in Finland!
