Sharing photos taken during the exquisite five day workshop Japanese Pictorial Art taught by Yaeko Kurimata, from Tokyo Japan.  During this workshop we discovered the beauty and finesse of Japanese art, and in particular the art of Rinpa.  The name Rinpa (or Rimpa) describes a highly decorative style of painting and articrafts (lacquer and ceramics) that flourished during the Edo period (17th century to 19th century).  This school was named in the 19th century after one of its leading artists, Ogata Korin.  Rinpa basically means 'school of Korin'. The Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements in Europe and United States were deeply inspired and influenced by this style.

It was sheer delight to host this workshop by Yaeko who took us all on a 'holistic' journey as she introduced us to Japanese culture and aesthetics, spanning from the auspicious symbols of Shochikubai found in the painting, to the introduction of Japanese paint brushes and Japanese artist gouache.

Manufacturer of Turner Acryl Gouache, Turner Colour Works Ltd had gracefully sent us plenty of samples to use in class.  We discovered this amazing product, with its brilliant colors and its multiple properties.  This deserves an entire article to show and describe this amazing aryl gouache, which is still not known in France.... coming soon on our blog!

A big thank you to Yaeko and all the students for this wonderful class, and to Turner Colour Works for their generosity!
